Valley Counselling is a family operated business

About Jonathan:

Perhaps surprisingly, I’ve transitioned from a city based technical role with Telstra.

As I reflect back, I am not so surprised.  My path toward this new role has been quietly going on since my 20’s.  During those years, almost unknowingly, I hankered for quality conversation; for guidance without agenda, helping me become more of myself.  I found this to be a rare commodity.  Sometimes I found it, sometimes I didn't.

Across the next several decades, with this ‘inner search’ going on, I took steps to seek out environments I thought would help.  A reality is though, what I found never really met me - and in some ways even added to my disturbance.  It’s possible that during those years I also may not have been all that helpful to some.

During the last 10 years or so, struggling under burdens and pain, my inner quest intensified and led me to better understanding the process of personal and spiritual growth.  This search, in turn has led me to the counselling discipline itself.  Here, it feels as though I’ve finally come home.

During the last 10 years or so, struggling under burdens and pain, my inner quest intensified and led me to better understanding the process of personal and spiritual growth.  This search, in turn has led me to the counselling discipline itself.  Here, it feels as though I’ve finally come home.

In this environment it’s not hard to find people who know how to be  ‘present’ with me, without being intense or without trying to ‘fix me up’.  Within the circle of these secure relationships there is a carriage toward greater ‘adultness’.  I so value all that.  I respect those ahead of me in experience and warm to the sacredness of curative moments as they occur.

I‘ve completed 3 years of formal training, holding a Graduate Diploma in Relationship Counselling - and continue my personal study.

So, I now find myself taking on the role of a ‘Personal and Relationship Counsellor’. I have been operating my own private practice for 10 years now. (Interesting how things can change!).

My own persuasions are founded in Christian faith and values, yet my approach to counselling is known as ‘Client Centered’. This means conversations are driven by the needs and values of my clients - rather than my own.  In addition, I’m trained to be able to utlise a number of therapy styles in order to best help work through places that may have become stuck.

I’ve seen it happen with myself and others; so I am convinced that with work and with time, it is quite possible to overcome difficulties large and small, and once again develop a Healthy Mind and a Living Heart.

My life is a bit chaotic at times, and I appreciate the flexibility in session times.

Depression is tricky to talk about but Jon is pretty easy to talk with.

Jon helped me unpack and make sense of my family background.  It’s helped me face life better now.
Life has thrown me a few curved balls. I feel more straightened out now.
Talking with Jon is like a massage of the mind.

With the load I carry in the workplace, it has been necessary to get my mental health back on track.

Jon helped me process a difficult work situation. I became able  to understand what was really happening - and to communicate effectively, without burning bridges.
